Candida/Food Allergies
Candida
Candida Albicans is a common yeast normally found in the intestinal tract. However, in certain circumstances, an individual may become sensitized to it and develop symptoms, including fatigue, depression, brain fog, irritable bowel syndrome and vaginitis.
Genetics almost always play a role in this condition. For example, most people with Candida have one or both parents with yeast allergy. This is often manifested by alcohol or sugar craving. Testing may include stool analysis, urinary yeast metabolites, and elimination diets. Treatment includes dietary restriction, nutritional supplements, antifungal herbs and/or medications.
Food Allergy/Intolerance
It is our view that traditional allergists have a narrow definition of food allergy, namely that proved by skin or blood testing. We find that many people have food-related reactions that skin or blood testing may not identify. Elimination diets are found to be most helpful in these cases. Common diagnoses that can be food related include: irritable bowel syndrome, spastic colon, chronic constipation or diarrhea, fatigue, “brain fog,” arthritis, chronic sinus drainage/congestion/post-nasal drip and more. Treatment focuses on the identification and elimination of foods to which an individual reacts.
